Brain tumor counseling in Connecticut

A brain tumor changes the calendar, the body, and the future tense. Counseling is for the part of the week that is not in an infusion chair.

The emotional work

Uncertainty

Scan weeks can take over a household. We build a way to live in the days that are not scan days.

Grief

Grief here is often for plans, stamina, work, and a previous self. It can exist next to gratitude. Both can be true.

Identity after surgery

Fatigue, tenderness, slower thinking, and a changed face in the mirror are not “just recovery.” They deserve language.

Family

Partners become project managers. Adult children become decision-makers. Counseling can be individual or shared.

What counseling does not replace

Oncology, neurosurgery, neuropsych testing, or spiritual care. I work alongside those teams. I do not direct medical treatment.

FAQs

When is the right time to start?

1

At diagnosis, during treatment, after surgery, or years into survivorship. Start when the emotional load is heavier than the tools you have.

I am the caregiver. Can I come alone?

2

Yes. You do not need the patient’s permission to take care of your own mind, though I will not treat you as a reporter on their medical file.
