A counselor who already knows the brain injury world.

I’m Jamie Arber. I help people in Connecticut live with what changed after neurological injury — and help the families and clinicians around them stay standing.

Why this practice exists

Medical teams save lives and rebuild function. They rarely have an hour for the sentence nobody says out loud in the exam room:

I survived. I don’t recognize my life.

I spent more than 15 years in community-based brain injury and disability support in Connecticut, including work as Executive Director of The Supported Living Group. I sat with survivors, waiver services, families, and rehab teams long before I became a licensed counselor.

Neurospark Counseling is the clinical practice that grew out of that work. It is small on purpose. You meet with me.

How I work

  • We go at the speed of your brain that day. Fatigue is treated as data, not resistance.

  • We name grief without rushing you to “acceptance.”

  • We include family when that helps, and keep the door closed when you need a private hour.

  • We use EMDR, clinical hypnosis, and structured grief work when they fit. We do not use them as a brand.

  • We set small, visible markers of progress so therapy does not feel foggy.

Credentials

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Connecticut

  • Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer (CBIS-T)

  • Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist (CAGCS)

  • Certified Consulting Hypnotist (CCH)

  • Training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Master of Arts in Community Psychology, University of New Haven

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, University of East London

The letters matter because brain injury work is easy to get wrong. They are not a claim that one clinician is the only specialist on earth. They are a promise that this is not general talk therapy with a brain-injury keyword added later.

Who I see

Adults in Connecticut living with the aftermath of TBI, concussion and post-concussion syndrome, stroke, and brain tumor. Partners, parents, adult children, and other caregivers. Nurses, therapists, case managers, and other clinicians who work in neurological care.

I also understand disability, ABI systems, and the gap between “community support” and “mental health care.” If you have been passed between agencies, you will not have to explain the alphabet of services from scratch.
